Bat Mitzahs

Me, Ron, Ashley, Jude and MJ at a recent Bat Mitzvah

Sorry I have not written I was really busy in school. If anyone lives in new york and are in school you will know that us kids just had the state tests. So, I was stressed out.

I just went to Bat Mitzvah a few days ago. I've been to a couple of Bat Mitzvahs before, but this one was the biggest one. People get Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs confused; Bat Mitzvahs are for girls, Bar Mitzvahs are for guys. This Bat Mitzvah was for my friend, Sonia. Bat Mitzvahs these days are a really important symbol of popularity.

I meant to tell you guys the 10 best things about Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and the 10 worst things.  Here goes:
One of the worst things  is that it's basically only about how big of a party you throw. I went to my friend Sam's and it was really small and down-to-earth... the next week everyone was saying how lame it was, and that it was really boring!  It actually wasn't.  I thought it was really fun; it was just that it was at a local pool bar and not in a whole club.
Unlike my friend Sonia who rented a boat and took us around the Hudson and gave us sweatshirts and socks and gift cards as our goodie bags.

I also think that another bad thing about Bar Mitzvahs is that it used to be about becoming an adult, not who has the coolest party. Of course, I like the parties as well. I love really fun parties that are outrageous and big but who doesn't like that? However, I hate the things that the girls in my school wear to them. It's a celebration of becoming a mature adult in Judaism but the girls in my school wear dresses that, if they bend down, you can see their butts. I don't know,  but I don't think that wearing slutty outfits is what you're supposed to wear to a synagogue. Also, at the party it's all about the presents. You always have to get a huge expensive gift to give to her or him. There's a lot of pressure about that which I don't like. Sonia got over $6,000 for her Bat Mitzvah! But I do like that you can hang out with your friends at a fun place that's not in school. I love the food that is served at Bar Mitzvahs, too.  It's always catered and is mostly always delicious. My favorites have been sushi, fried rice and one had a chocolate fountain!
Well, I guess I don't have 10 good things and 10 bad things to say about them.  To each their own.
Overall, I love them and hope to be invited to many more.
